Q: What's your name and position at Tula Yoga Studio?
A: Maile Wicklander, Owner
Q: How long have you been in the neighborhood?
A: In October, it will be 4 years.
Q: What do you want our community to know about Tula Yoga Studio?
A: At Tula, community is as important as the yoga itself. We aim to make this a place of connection - mind and body connection, connection to yourself and connection with your neighbors and community.
Q: What’s your favorite summer activity in Chicago?
A: I grew up in California where summers are not nearly as appreciated as here. The first summer I spent here, I was blown away by the city's vibrancy and energy - I love street festivals, outdoor yoga and just hanging outside in this gorgeous city.
Q: What positive attributes does Tula Yoga Studio bring to the community?
A: Besides bringing health and wellness through yoga to the community at the studio, we also offer opportunities outside of the studio to get involved (in yoga and the neighborhood).
- We offer free community classes at the Logan Square Farmers Market each Sunday and at Unity Park on select Saturdays during the Summer.
- We are the only yoga studio in Chicago that offers a discount on yoga packages at the studio for doing volunteer work (it's called our YogiCitizen program - http://tulayoga.net/yogicitizen-program/)
- Finally, we routinely partner with non-profits and local businesses to bring events and donation classes to the neighborhood.
Q: What's your favorite yoga pose?
A: Triangle or Trikonasana. It opens up the shoulders, chest, spine, hips and hamstrings and calves while also strengthening the legs, arms, ankles and knees. And it feels so good! :)
